Vintage Berber tribal necklace featuring handmade Taguemout enamel beads from Morocco. It also has old red and black glass barrel beads that are 14 x 10mm. The beads are individually wired on silver chain. The enamel beads are a Berber design with circular patterns and applied twisted wires. The largest central bead is 26mm and the smaller are 15mm. The central bead, called 'taguemout' were popular among the Berber women living in the western Anti Atlas region and represent fertility. These traditional beads often were very large, and were traditionally worn both on necklaces and pectorals. The metal has a slight oxidized finish, ss with all tribal jewelry, the silver content of the beads varies and is usually lower than sterling. The enamel is dark blue, red and green. The necklace has a simple silver hook and eye clasp that is secure.
