Rare Amber Satin Glass Elephant Powder Jar by L. E. Smith Glass Company. This Art Deco piece is a large round amber satin powder jar with a standing elephant finial on the lid. Both the base and lid of the jar have enchanting vertical ripples. The base bulges to a diameter of 6¼" at the center. The top of the base has a slanted ridge over which the lid fits. This jar could be used as lidded bowl for candy, dining, trinkets and more.  Patent information shows this jar was designed by Charles H. Oestreich of New York. An application for a patent on this ornamental design for use as a toilet powder container was filed on November 4, 1930. The patent was granted on January 13, 1931. The glass is in EXCELLENT used condition, no chips, repairs, etc.
