Vintage Hawaiian black coral and turquoise bracelet. The black coral is carved into tubes and an oval bead. I love the contrast of the turquoise nugget beads mixed in between. You can see the golden rings of the genuine coral in the center bead. Black coral is found in the Pacific Ocean and is often used in Hawaiian jewelry. It has a silver screw clasp that works well and is secure. All the coral is genuine and natural in color. (Not dyed)
You will be surprised by the feel of black coral and how light weight it is. In the 1950's Hawaiian black coral was found at extreme depths exceeding 175 feet. It has long been a Hawaiian favorite gemstone. Once abundant in the Persian Gulf area and other oceans, but that has been exhausted.
