This antique brooch is comprised of a carved coral serpent or snake on a 10K gold pin. The coral is a natural salmon color and is untreated and not dyed. Ancient Chinese thought that the snake could prolong life, and considered it to be a symbol of good luck, great harvest, and reproduction. Snake-themed cultural relics were often found in southwestern and southern China. The 10K gold brooch is from the Qing Dynasty. China is home to the finest jewelers creating and carving coral jewelry for hundreds of years.
