This Gothic Revival Poison Ring features a red carnelian cabochon. The sterling silver ring is highly decorated with ornate details and has gold accents on the sides. The carnelian is a lush reddish orange in an elongated oval or marquis shape. (The color is most like the picture on black) . The ring has an old world design that evokes another era. It has a working safety catch that opens to reveal a hidden compartment underneath the gemstone. The cavity is large enough to hold pills or poison.
This type of ring originated in Medieval times when they were used to conceal real poison, the style was very popular mid 20th century. This ring came from the estate of a jewelry collector in Houston.
