This is a Victorian Era coral necklace is composed of Shiva Eye or Cats Eye shell beads. Operculum shells were worn for good luck. The distinctive shells come from the shell of a sea snail, and resembled a cat's eye or protective evil eye. The shells have been used for centuries in jewelry, but it was the Victorians who made them popular. There are six round, cabochon set Operculum Shells. The shells measure 18-20mm and dangle from a fabulous handcrafted silver chain. The chain is unmarked, but tests as a 800 silver.
