This is a Victorian Era coral necklace composed of natural Sardinian Coral beads from Italy. The beads are nicely graduated from 12mm to 3mm. The salmon coral beads are not perfectly round because they were hand cut in mid to late 1800's. These Shiva Eye or Cats Eye shell beads, were very popular in the Victorian era, as they were worn for good luck, and to ward off evil spirits. A protection amulet. Made from the Operculum natural type of snail shell, it has green, brown and off white tones. It can be worn both ways, the whiter side looks good too. This simple but elegant necklace dates back to 1890. It is made with a silver chain, and measures 17 inches long and has 9 shells hanging. The necklace has a 14K gold spring ring clasp and is 17¾ inches long.
