Vintage Black Coral Woman's Head Pendant from Hawaii. This pendant was carved from a piece of natural black coral. The pendant is in rich dark brown and black tones and showcases nature's artistry through visible growth rings and organic color variations. It gives it loads of character. This pendant was carved in 3D, even on the back, and would be perfect to hang on your chain or necklace. For many years people have believed coral has protective powers. It was often gifted to children and relatives. It was hand carved and has a gold bail at the top.
You will be surprised by the feel of black coral and how light weight it is. Look closely at this charm and you will see the golden brown markings on it like branches. This coral has been polished to get a beautiful very shiny surface. In the 1950's Hawaiian black coral was found at extreme depths exceeding 175 feet. It has long been a Hawaiian favorite gemstone. Once abundant in the Persian Gulf area and other oceans, but that has been exhausted. AA quality
