Plique-á-Jour Dragonfly Brooch Enamel Sterling Vintage Italian

This is a gorgeous Italian Plique-á-Jour dragonfly brooch. This Art Nouveau pin or brooch truly stands out with beautiful and vibrant colors. The dragonfly is 800 silver with a gold plating on his body. It has fine filigree work for his wings, overlaid with enamel in turquoise blue and green. He has red enamel eyes that are striking. Plique ‘a Jour is a French term meaning ‘letting in daylight’. A process in which enamel is applied in wire cells, similar to cloisonné, but without a backing. As it is transparent, light easily shines through the translucent enamel causing it to appear much like stained glass. This dragonfly pin was made by a true artisan in Italy.
